Maidens in Mystic Lands
As a native Swede, my artistic journey is deeply rooted in the rich tapestry of ancient Scandinavian and Nordic culture.
Passed down through generations via poems, sagas, and Rune inscriptions, this heritage forms the very essence of my creative inspiration. Within my work, the ethereal forest spirits, formidable Norse goddesses, and the legendary viking women warriors, known as Shield Maidens, command a central presence. To capture their mystique, often veiled in romanticized tales, I create large, softly colored, multilayered photographs, reminiscent of the pictures in the storybooks I cherished as a child. Through the intricate layering of photographs, I construct multi-dimensional tapestries of stories and symbols. In the delicate interplay of adding and removing these layers, I uncover a metaphor for the evolution of life and the enduring imprints it leaves behind. Residing in the Hudson Valley for the past few years has profoundly shaped my artistic perspective. The mountains, the rivers, and the forests evoke a strong connection to the landscapes of my Scandinavian upbringing. These familiar terrains awaken memories of childhood wonder, where mystical beings and deities lurk in the shadows, quietly observing.
